Brendan Moment

So working in an autism classroom it really shouldn't have surprised me when we had a Brendan moment yesterday. A little background before the story. There are seven kids in the classroom and one of them, Jesus, has a one-on-one aid, Jared. Yesterday was a fairly laid back day because the Speech Therapist and OT were in the room and they were in charge of running the class for the morning. They brought in Apples to Apples Jr. as a "language game". So everyone but Jesus is sitting at the table playing, he doesn't do very well with games, and Jesus is trying to sneak over to the computers to play. As he's circling the table everyone gets a whiff of something very stinky. Turns out that Jesus failed to tell Jared that he had to go to the bathroom. Jared runs out with him to get him changed into some new clothes and the rest of us are wondering why the room still stinks with the source of the smell gone and the door propped open. When one of the other kids gets up we discover that somehow Jesus managed to leave a little present on the floor of the classroom. Needless to say the kids, and adults, freaked out and we moved our game outside while the carpet got cleaned. And that is what my days are like!

  1. I feel your pain! Quite literally! Now if it was smeared all over him and the room and you were the one cleaning the carpets you would have my sympathy. Just kidding! You have my sympathy anyway!! Ahhh! The adventures!
