The kids have their fall festival tonight. We are all very excited! (Can you hear the sarcasm?) The Fall Festival Committee was very creative this year in their request for cake donations for the cake walk. They turned it into a cake decorating contest. Well, you can't enter one kid into the cake decorating contest without entering the other one, or the other two. I also felt like donating three cakes might make me feel less guilty about not donating my time at one of the booths during the festival. Unfortunately, this has not been the case. Every night another email comes begging for help and I feel that pang of guilt. Unfortunately for the committee members, my guilt has not propelled me to action like it is supposed to.
I thought I would post the end results of my guilt ridden baking. Desi helped with the eyeballs, leaves, and pumpkins. She always gets pulled in to my crazy projects. Laura, be grateful you are now far far away, or you would have been making eyeballs too!
This is Brendan's fall leaves cake. I think the leaves turned out good but it was very hard to put flat leaves on a round cake. They didn't cooperate too well. This one is my least favorite of the three, but I do still like it.
Preston's cake is supposed to be a pot of stewing eyeballs and snakes. The eyeballs are cake pops, the snakes are gummy, and the "flames" are chocolate melts. This is Trent's favorite of the three. My favorite is Ashtyn's cake.
The Peanuts Gang! Who doesn't love the Peanuts characters?
The pumpkins without lines are cake pops. The other pumpkins and the characters are just melted chocolate. You put a picture under wax paper, trace it with the chocolate, fill it in, and peel the wax off once the chocolate sets. Pretty cool trick. Desi found it on a blog. If you can color, you can do this.
Snoopy, I mean The Great Pumpkin, is my favorite. Or WAS my favorite before Brendan ripped his head off and I had to patch him back together. His neck has seen better days.
I had lots of fun!
Bugs and Hisses,
Marcie
This post would not be complete without my usual nag. Remember to post all of your kiddos in their Halloween costumes!! We would all love to see them dressed up and beggin' for candy.
Update: Preston's cake won the scariest cake contest for K-2 grades. He said, "Mom, it's like you won too since you did half the work." I asked him who did the other half thinking he would say Desi since she helped so much. He said, "I did. I handed you the snakes."
ReplyDeleteYou're amazing Marcie! First, to come up with such great ideas. Then, to actually take the time to do it!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the shared win! What a typical child's way of thinking for Preston. That's priceless!
