Hiking

One of the things we love about Colorado is all the great hiking. Although, to be honest, we don't take advantage of the beautiful scenery often enough. The kids had a random Monday off in September and we decided to go on a nice family hike.

The hike we did takes you to 3 lakes - this is the first, Nymph Lake. Our kids renamed it "Lilly Pad Lake"

We happened to go during elk season and saw several elk along our hike.

This is the second lake, Dream Lake. It's my favorite of the three.

We usually like to stop and eat a snack here but this time the chipmunks were out in full force. And they are not scared of people. However, Reagan is extremely scared of them! There's one right by Jared's foot in this picture.

If they know you have food they get REALLY aggressive. I had one climb half-way up my leg. We took our snack somewhere else but for the rest of the hike the kids referred to this lake as "Crazy Chipmunk Lake".

I'm not posting a picture of the third lake, Emerald Lake, because honestly it's the least impressive of the three. But here's a cute, little bridge you cross to get there.

One of our children may or may not have peed behind this fallen down tree....

And finally, here are some more elk we saw on our way out of the park. The bulls were HUGE, although you can't really tell from the pictures.
